The end of the test period

At the end of the 12-week exercise intervention period, the participants once again went through 5 test days and food provision for 8 days, just as they had at the start of the project.

Test day 1 - Sugar load test

After 11 weeks of exercise, the participants were given a second sugar load test, in the same manner as the one given 11 weeks earlier. The participants were told that they should not exercise on the day before the sugar load test. The test took place at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Test day 2 - Physical stress test

The second test day in the final phase was identical to the physical stress test that the participants underwent prior to the 12 weeks of exercise. The participants in Groups 1 and 2 were asked to continue their exercise. The test took place at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Test day 3 - Insulin sensitivity test and PET-CT scan

The test was carried out at Copenhagen University Hospital, and was identical to the test 12 weeks earlier. The participants were told that it was very important for them to not exercise the day before the test if they were in Group 1 or 2.

Test day 4 - Meal test and food provision

The participants in Groups 1 and 2 were asked to continue their exercise, including on the afternoon following the meal test. The test was otherwise identical to the one given prior to the exercise intervention period, and it also took place at the Department of Human Nutrition. The food provision period also copied the period prior to the intervention.

Test day 5 - MRI scan

The test took place at Glostrup Hospital, and it was the same as the test prior to the 12-week exercise intervention period.
